Judgment Interest Calculator for Michigan

Objective: Calculate post-judgment interest quickly

Interest on a Michigan money judgment changes with the published rates and with every payment made against it, so working it out by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. Mokasoft wanted a tool that lets an attorney enter a judgment once, record payments, and get an accurate figure and a summary to share.

What Web Ascender Did

This was the first product we built with Mokasoft, in the spring of 2014.

• Wireframes and design - the application, its mobile layout, and its email template, reviewed with Mokasoft before development
• The calculation - interest computed against admin-managed interest rates, with payments applied and an end date the user controls
• Judgments in one place - judgments organized with favorites, so attorneys can return to any matter from a desktop or a phone
• PDF summaries and email - summary and detail reports generated as PDFs and emailed from the app
• Organizations and users - firm accounts with multiple users, a limit on simultaneous logins, and an admin “become user” view for support
• Subscriptions - Stripe billing with free trials, yearly plans, and self-service cancellation
• A marketing site - a WordPress site explaining how it works and leading visitors into a free trial, launched with the app in mid-2014

Since Launch

We have hosted and supported the calculator ever since: input handling for large amounts, terms of service, a longer free trial, spam protection, and a 2024 move to an upgraded server with updated Stripe billing and PDF generation. Its marketing site was rebuilt in 2024 with pricing and FAQ pages, and we have run its Google Ads and email campaigns.

The Outcome

The Judgment Interest Calculator gave Mokasoft its first subscription product, and its foundation (accounts, billing, PDF reports, admin-managed data) became the starting point for the Michigan Sentencing Guidelines Calculator a few weeks later.
