Objective: A website that keeps up with a software company that serves local government

BS&A Software, based in Bath, Michigan, builds financial management, assessing and property tax, utility billing, and HR software for local governments, delivered both on premise and in the cloud. Their website has to do several jobs at once: explain a broad product line to municipal buyers, host training for existing customers, register people for events, and recruit new employees.

When BS&A first came to Web Ascender in 2017, that website was an aging DNN and Windows site that needed patching and a path forward.

What Web Ascender Did

• Stabilized the old site, then moved it to WordPress - we started with DNN upgrades and SSL, then migrated the whole site to WordPress as a fixed-price project. It went live in spring 2018
• A Learning Center for customers - Vimeo-powered video libraries and courseware, password-protected customer areas, event registration, and auto-login links for people already using BS&A’s software
• A full redesign and rebuild in 2021 - new homepage concepts and logo refinements grew into a complete rebuild, with a new sitemap and navigation, icons, and a resources and tutorial section with form-gated video
• Content and SEO for the whole product line - keyword research and fresh copy for financial management, assessing, utilities, HCM, and community development, so each product area could be found and understood on its own
• A recruiting brand - StoryBrand messaging and personas, a redesigned Careers page with its own custom post type, a careers video shoot, a Word template, and a benefits guide
• Integrations and tools - Salesforce and HubSpot forms, JazzHR and Paylocity job listings, a webinar and events calendar for Zoom and GoToWebinar, and a small change-log plugin for software release notes
• Hosting and ongoing support - the site moved to our managed WordPress hosting with the 2021 launch, and we handle new page templates, press releases, and requests as they come up

The Outcome

BS&A has had the same web partner since 2017, through two complete versions of the site. Customers get a Learning Center that makes training and events easy to find, prospects get a clear picture of each product line, and job seekers get a Careers page that shows what working at BS&A is like. Behind the scenes, the site stays connected to the tools the team already runs on, and requests are handled by the people who built it.
