AI Search Optimization

Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews who to hire. We make sure the answer includes you.

AI search tools don't show ten blue links. They write one answer and cite a handful of sources. AI search optimization makes your business easy for those tools to find, understand, trust, and recommend.

Search is turning into a conversation

Classic search gives buyers a list to work through. AI search hands them a short answer with a few sources, so being one of those sources matters more than ever.

Classic search

  • Ten links, and buyers click around to compare
  • Ranking on page one is the goal
  • Your page is judged as a whole
  • Ads can buy the top spot

AI search

  • One written answer that names a few businesses
  • Being cited in the answer is the goal
  • Specific passages get quoted on their own
  • Recommendations reflect what the whole web says about you

What we do to get you cited

AI search rewards the same things good marketing always has: being easy to find, clear about what you do, and well regarded by others. We work on all three.

  • AI crawler access

Confirm ChatGPT's and Perplexity's crawlers can reach your site, and nothing in robots rules, firewalls, or bot protection blocks them.

Why it matters If they can't read your site, they can't cite it.

  • Bing and IndexNow

Bing Webmaster Tools, sitemap submission, and IndexNow so new and updated pages are picked up within hours.

Why it matters ChatGPT search draws heavily on Bing's index.

  • Content AI can quote

Question headings with direct two-to-three sentence answers, specific facts, comparisons, and FAQs on the pages that matter.

Why it matters AI tools quote passages, so each one needs to stand on its own.

  • Schema and structured data

Organization, service, FAQ, and review markup that spells out who you are and what you offer.

Why it matters Removes guesswork about your business, services, and location.

  • Reviews and outside mentions

Google reviews, industry directories, partner sites, press, and the lists buyers and AI tools both read.

Why it matters AI recommendations lean on what others say about you, not just what you say.

  • Niche questions you can own

Content for the specific, high-intent questions your buyers ask, where a clear answer can win.

Why it matters Broad questions go to big brands. Specific ones go to the best answer.

  • Fresh, dated content

Updated dates and regular refreshes on your cornerstone service and resource pages.

Why it matters AI search tools favor current information.

  • Monthly visibility tracking

Your buyer questions run across AI tools every month, with mentions, citations, and competitor share reported over time.

Why it matters Shows what's working, and where to focus next.

Start with an AI visibility audit

A fixed-scope look at how AI search sees your business today, and a prioritized plan to improve it.

  1. Step 1 Technical check

Crawler access, Bing indexing, page speed, schema, and how your key pages read to an AI tool.

  2. Step 2 Buyer question test

30 to 50 questions your buyers ask, run several times each across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews.

  3. Step 3 Competitor comparison

Who gets mentioned and cited instead of you, and which of their pages the AI tools rely on.

  4. Step 4 Prioritized plan

The fixes that matter most, in order, whether we make them or your team does.

Why AI search matters now

More buyers start their research by asking an AI tool a question instead of typing keywords into a search box. Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity “who builds custom apps in Michigan” or “what should a manufacturer’s website include,” and you get a written answer with a short list of sources. Those sources get the credibility, and often the click.

Google is moving the same direction with AI Overviews at the top of many results pages. Whether a buyer uses ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google, a growing share of first impressions now happen inside an AI-written answer.

What AI tools look for

AI search tools are trying to give a trustworthy answer quickly. The businesses they cite tend to have a few things in common:

  • They’re easy to reach and index. Search crawlers can read the site, and it’s well indexed in Google and Bing.
  • They answer questions directly. Clear headings, short direct answers, and specific facts that can be quoted on their own.
  • They’re specific. Real numbers, real examples, and pages focused on a particular service, industry, or problem.
  • Others vouch for them. Reviews, directory listings, partner sites, and articles that describe the business consistently.

Built on the SEO you already need

AI search optimization isn’t a replacement for search engine optimization. The two reinforce each other: the work that earns rankings also feeds the sources AI tools draw from, and the clear, specific content AI tools prefer is exactly what buyers want too.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI search optimization?
It’s the work of getting your business mentioned and cited when people ask AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews for recommendations or answers. It covers technical access for AI crawlers, content written in clear question-and-answer form, structured data, and building the third-party mentions these tools rely on.
Is this the same as GEO or AEO?
Yes. Generative engine optimization (GEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO) are industry names for the same goal: being the source an AI answer is built from. We call it AI search optimization because that’s what our clients ask for.
How is it different from SEO?
It builds on SEO rather than replacing it. ChatGPT search leans on Bing’s index and Perplexity runs its own crawler, so pages that are indexed, fast, and well structured have a head start. The difference is that AI tools quote passages, not pages, and weigh what the rest of the web says about you, so content structure and outside mentions matter more.
How do you measure AI visibility?
We build a set of the questions your buyers actually ask, run them across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews several times each, and record whether you’re mentioned, whether your pages are cited, and which competitors appear instead. AI answers vary from run to run, so we track the trend month over month rather than a single snapshot.
How long does it take to show up in AI answers?
Technical fixes like crawler access and Bing indexing can take effect within weeks. Content changes and new third-party mentions build over a few months, similar to SEO. Nobody can guarantee a specific AI answer, and we won’t claim to.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It’s cheap to add and we include one, but there’s little evidence the major AI search tools rely on it yet. Crawler access, indexing, clear content, and outside mentions matter far more.
