By January 26, 2016 No Comments

Every social media platform comes with it’s own dimensions for profile, cover, and shared photos. We’ve compiled a list of all the profile images you’ll need and the sizes they should be for your brand’s social media profiles.

Facebook Images

Facebook is one of the easier social media platforms to add your collateral to. The cover photo does not stretch across the entire width of the screen which means it stays the same size for every desktop view. This makes it easy to include text in without worrying about whether or not it will be visible for certain screen sizes. You’ll also need a profile photo, which shows up as a square on your profile page as well as throughout the site. It’s recommended that images being shared in a post be sized at 1200 x 900 pixels.

What you’ll need:

  • A cover photo – 851 x 315
  • A profile picture – 180 x 180
  • Shared photos (recommended upload size) – 1200 x 900

Twitter Images

The cover photo for twitter spans the width of the screen so it’s recommended that the image used be at least 1500 x 500 so the quality doesn’t get lost on larger screens. The profile image is also a square and will appear as such throughout Twitter in various sizes. Tweeted photos should be at least 440 x 220.

What you’ll need:

  • A header photo – 1500 x 500
  • A Profile photo – 400 x 400
  • In-Stream photos- 440 x 220

LinkedIn Company Profile Images

The standard LinkedIn profile page has a profile photo size that displays at 100 x 100 and a banner photo that’s 646 x 220 pixels.

What you’ll need:

  • A banner photo – 646 x 220
  • A Profile photo – 100×100

Google Plus Profile Images

Google recently downsized the display of the profile photo on desktop screens, but it’s still recommended that the image be uploaded as 250 x 250. The cover photo should also be 1080 x 608.

What you’ll need:

  • A cover photo – 1080 x 608
  • A Profile photo – 250 x 250

YouTube Channel Images

The YouTube cover photo probably has the most drastic change between various devices. The maximum and recommended upload size is 2560 x 1440. Any text or important information should be included in a safe area of 1546 x 423. The cover photo is also a square that should be uploaded at 400 x 400.

What you’ll need:

  • A cover photo – 2560 x 1440
  • A Profile photo – 400×400

Despite the varying sizes of collateral each social media platform has, they all have a similar concept including a large cover image and a profile photo. All of the profile images are squares to accommodate the various places it gets displayed throughout each site. Knowing how to optimize your images for each platform your business is using will give your brand a consistent look and feel.
