Showcasing IT Opportunities in Greater Lansing

Capital Area Michigan Works presented their “Growing IT: Opportunities for the Capital Area” report on April 24th to IT leaders in Lansing, Michigan. After listening to presentations, panel discussions, and professors from Michigan State voice their opinions, it was clear that the Mid-Michigan area is lacking visibility of its IT opportunities. Lansing has an intelligent work force coming from the local colleges and universities, but those students are not seeing the business opportunities available to them here. There are not many resources for students to use to learn about local IT businesses. Mid-Michigan may not have companies named Microsoft, IBM, or Google, but there are many small and medium-sized businesses that can offer just as much of an opportunity to learn and grow right here in Lansing.

Ryan Doom and Kevin Southworth of Web Ascender can relate, as they were once in the same position as many of the upcoming college graduates. Not too long ago, they were Computer Science students at Michigan State University and were mostly unaware of the number of IT possibilities in Lansing.

This website is dedicated to showcasing the many vibrant Lansing area IT businesses. Any business in the Capital Area that has great IT employees, or is looking for more, should register their company on the website. The site is not a job listings board, but a directory and showcase of area companies. It’s easy (and free!) for companies to list themselves on the website and provide a little bit of information about their business. The hope is that this resource becomes known to every student and job-seeker that is interested in the Lansing area. It will allow visitors to browse companies in their area and learn about what they do. There are a lot of opportunities available to job-seekers right here in Lansing; the goal of this website is to make them known.
