The HTML Module is the most used module within DotNetNuke. Once this module is added to a page through the top control panel it simply gives you a rich text editor to add images, links, and text to the page.
 
After the module is added to the page, use the “Edit Content” option, or hover over the blue arrow above the module, and select ‘Edit Content.’ You will then see the rich text editor. Details on how to use the RTE are available in another section of this manual.
 
Settings
 
If you hover over the blue arrow and access the ‘Settings’ area of the module, you will have settings specific to this module at the bottom. One option is to turn on Token Replacement.
 
Token Replacement
 
Once the token replacement is turned on you can edit the HTML module and use tokens to dynamically replace information such as username and profile properties. For Example, you could have text like this in your HTML rich text editor:
 
“Welcome [User:DisplayName], thank you for coming back to the website. We hope that you enjoy [Tab:TabName] and the rest of our website. “
 
If you put the above in the rich text editor when editing this module’s content, it will replace the tokens [User:DisplayName] with the actual logged in users display name.

Publish Options
 
Direct Publish is the default option, whenever you save the module after editing it the content will be immediately updated on the website. Switch the option to Content Staging to save the content and view it as a content editor. You will then need to click ‘publish’ after saving it to post the content live.
 
The checkbox set as the default workflow will set the drop down option ‘direct publish’ or ‘content staging’ for all future modules to the same as the current module.
